NANO 501 - Advanced Quantum Mechanics This course introduces fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics. Applications are made to quantum computing, the harmonic oscillator, the hydrogen atom, electron spin and addition of angular momentum. The course also covers qualitative and approximation methods in quantum mechanics, including time-independent and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering and semiclassical methods. Applications are made to atomic, molecular and solid matter. Systems of identical particles will be treated including many electron atoms and the Fermi gas.
Prerequisites PHYS 421. Cross-listed Same as PHYS 521. (3 cr.)
