ARTV 204 - Calligraphy An introduction to the basics of Arabic calligraphy, including the study of historical styles and their developments, as well as the practical application of the Thuluth and Kufic scripts. Emphasis will be placed on developing fine manual craft skills through extended practice. Students will copy masterpieces, cut and decorate Turkish-style matting, and adapt classical designs to contemporary media. Field-trips to view local examples of architectural calligraphy will enhance knowledge of traditional designs and inspire adaptations. When Offered Offered occasionally. (3 cr.)
