ARIC 526 - Seminar on Selected Topics in Islamic Law and Legal Theory Selected topics in Islamic law; e.g. its history, methodologies, specific Islamic legal or political theories (including international relation, minorities, human rights), administration of criminal justice, court systems, reforms in the modern times, principles of jurisprudence (Usul al Fiqh), the concept of social interests, legal maxims. The course offers, whenever appropriate, comparisons, between the different Muslim and Western approaches to the selected topic, illustrated with reference to the main sources in translation and in Arabic. Prerequisites Pre-requisites: ARIC 335 or consent of instructor. When Offered Offered annually. (3 cr.)
