Mission

The Department of Rhetoric and Composition provides a solid foundation in critical thinking, reading and writing, and promotes excellence in undergraduate research and rhetoric in a variety of multi-modal, discipline-specific and inter-disciplinary genres. It fulfills its mission through student-centered teaching, guided research, and community service learning.

Program Outcomes

The Department of Rhetoric and Composition will

  1. cultivate the habits of critical inquiry, analysis and argument.
  2. promote research and rhetorical skills for the academic disciplines
  3. promote research and rhetorical skills for various professional needs
  4. encourage research to address community problems and injustices
  5. promote equity and appreciation of diversity among students, faculty and staff
  6. attract and sustain a highly professional and innovative faculty body
  7. conduct on-going self-assessment for the purposes of continuous program enhancement
  8. employ assessment methods for students, faculty and program that are fair and constructive
