FILM 000/2122 - Introduction to Film Criticism (3 cr.)
Prerequisites FILM 2120 or consent of the instructor.
Description This course is an extension of Introduction to Film Art (FILM 2120). Whereas the first course focuses on the basics of film language and textual analysis, Introduction to Film Criticism focuses on the major schools of film criticism and teaches students how to write about film using those critical methodologies. The course is required for Film majors, as it provides them with basic knowledge necessary for satisfactory performance in more advanced Film courses. The course is also open, with permission of the instructor, to non-Film majors/minors who are interested in a more comprehensive introduction to the field (e.g., students of media/journalism and comparative literature).
