Description This course applies political economy’s approaches and tools to the study of Egypt and the contemporary Middle East. It cuts across domestic, regional, and international dynamics within and around the country by tackling the topics of rentierism, the impacts of neoliberal globalization on development and democratization, state-business and capital-labor relations, revolutions, and popular uprisings. In doing so it examines the political economy of states, regimes, and societies of Egypt and the region.
