EGPT 525/5230 - Settlement and Daily Life in Ancient Egypt (3 cr.)
Description This seminar introduces students to the material culture of the ancient Egyptians, specifically that of their settlements and daily life. The seminar concentrates on the archaeological evidence from settlements of the three most important periods of ancient Egyptian civilization: the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms. The seminar will first discuss urban settlement patterns in ancient Egypt, and secondly the processes by which material assemblages form in settlements. The plans and structure of dwellings will also be considered along with the material evidence found inside of them.
