ARIC 526/5242 - Seminar on Selected Topics in Islamic Law and Legal Theory (3 cr.)
Prerequisites or consent of instructor.
Description Selected topics in Islamic Law; e.g. Its history, methodologies, specific Islamic Legal or political theories (including international relation, minorities, human rights), administration of the criminal justice, court systems, reforms in the modern times, principles of jurisprudence (Usul al Fiqh) the concept of social interest, legal maxims. The course offers, whenever appropriate, comparisons, between the different Muslim and Western approaches to the selected Topic, illustrated with reference to the main sources in translation and in Arabic.
