BIOL 214/2340 - General Botany (3 cr. + 1 cr. lab)
Prerequisites (or BIOL 1010 ) and
Description This course will explore several aspects of plant biology with emphasis on structure, function, reproduction, systematics, plant metabolism and development. Students will be introduced to basic concepts of plant breeding, plant tissue culture and genetic transformation and the generation of genetically-modified crops. Detailed morphological, physiological study and greenhouse experimentation will be covered in the lab. Upon completion of this course, students will gain an appreciation for plant diversity, learning how plants are essential for supporting life on our planet and the potential impact of plant biotechnology on our life.
