ARCH 468/4532 - Urban Design and Landscape Architecture (3 cr.)
Prerequisites
Description This course is intended to teach students the basics of urban design and landscape architecture. Ethnography, inclusive communities and placemaking are emphasized through the analysis of visual elements, urban form, grain, texture, and fabric of lively streets. The course discusses perception, space, time and function of tactical urbanism and urban acupuncture as strategies of development. Students work in teams and present their ideas and design schemes where they are trained to question the role of the urban designer and master plan in relationship to people, economic activities and the ecosystems at play in the city.
Hours One-hour class period and three-hour studio period. When Offered Offered in fall and spring.
