Comparative & Middle East Politics and Society (CMEPS)

This is a joint Masters degree program between the American University in Cairo (AUC) and Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (TU), in Germany. Students are required to be enrolled full time at their home institution (AUC). The third semester of study takes place in the partner institution (TU). The program provides in-depth knowledge of comparative politics, and of political and societal developments in the Middle East. It also provides students with the analytical tools for understanding this region’s complex dynamics and challenges. The degree focuses on the relationship between societies and states in the MENA region as well as the dynamics of social and political transformation. Upon completion of the degree, AUC students will receive a joint degree certificate from the American University in Cairo (AUC) and the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (TU).

If needed, students also take an Elementary German Language proficiency course at TU as one of their elective courses. II. Thesis
Students must complete a thesis that either focuses on the Middle East or employs a comparative politics methodology. The thesis is co-supervised by a first supervisor from the American University in Cairo and a second supervisor from TU. Specific thesis requirements are circulated to students by the department. |
