The Writing Minor advances the rhetoric and writing discipline’s knowledge, competencies, and values. Students will read theory, practice the conventions of writing in different genres, consider ethical issues raised in writing and publication, and develop critical mastery in writing for differing purposes and contexts - creative, reflective, digital, professional, and academic. Students cultivate creative thought, facility in expression, social power through writing, and professional communication competencies. The Writing Minor complements all majors and supports students’ ability to communicate effectively and be competitive in their chosen fields.

Requirements (15 credits)
Students who opt to minor in Writing must have completed RHET 1020 with a minimum grade of B-. Writing Minor courses listed in the Core Curriculum may be double-counted for Core Curriculum credit at the secondary and capstone levels, consistent with the rules and policies of the Core Curriculum.
