Premedical Track

Most US medical schools require an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree that includes the required courses for admission. The liberal arts education at AUC provides the well-rounded education required by medical schools. AUC offers a list of primary undergraduate majors that align with medical school prerequisite requirements.

The Pre-medical track at AUC is not a degree-granting major but a track with a list of courses for students from all majors at AUC who plan to attend medical school after earning their bachelor’s degree. Premedical track students spend around two years studying basic behavioral sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, math, and humanities or social science courses that involve substantial critical writing. Premedical students must fulfill all requirements for their major and those of the premedical track to be eligible for admission to US medical schools.

Students interested in pursuing a pre-medical track should approach the Department of Biology where they will be assigned a faculty adviser to help with course sequencing and academic preparation for medical school admission.

The following academic prerequisites are required by most schools*

  • One year or two courses of General Biology or Zoology with lab.
  • One year or two courses  of Inorganic Chemistry (General or Physical) with lab.
  • One year or two courses of Organic Chemistry with lab.
  • One year or two courses of Physics with lab.
  • One year or two courses of Math (Calculus, or Statistics).
  • One semester of English.
  • Biochemistry (recommend).
  • Behavioral sciences, social sciences, or psychology (recommend).

* Students must check their desired medical schools for the specific admission requirements as they may need additional requirements for admission.
