Bachelor of Science in Biology

The undergraduate program at AUC offers interested students a liberal education in biological sciences, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. The program provides graduates with the broad background necessary in today’s job market and prepares them for graduate and professional schools.

Students with a B.Sc. degree in biology are securing positions in the growing fields of industry and academia. The recent advances in biology have created critical new industries in genetic engineering, biomedicine, biotechnology, and pharmacology. Students with ambitions beyond the bachelor level are entering graduate and professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine).

Students wishing to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology will be required to take a total of 132 credits. Out of the 132 credits, 33 credits are allocated for Core Curriculum, 46 credits for Concentration Requirements, 22 credits for Electives, 25 credits for Collateral Requirements, and 6 credits for General Electives.

Students may choose Biology (B.Sc.) with an optional Specialization in Genomics and Biotechnology, or Ecology and Conservation Biology after completing 22 credits from the required respective courses.

Specialization in Genomics and Biotechnology

This specialization equips students with comprehensive knowledge and skills to pursue careers in genomic medicine, genome-based industries, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences, preparing them for opportunities in academia and industry.

Specialization in Ecology and Conservation Biology

This specialization offers students the opportunity to deeply explore natural habitats, resources, and the biodiversity of our planet, with a particular focus on Egypt’s unique ecosystems.

The Biology (B.Sc.) program is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of ABET under the commission’s General Criteria.

Declaration of the Biology Major

Students accepted at AUC may either get admitted into their preferred major at the time of admission to the university (declare their major at the gate) or get admitted to the university as undeclared. Students who get admitted into a major will still have the opportunity to change their major later. Students must declare a major before completing 60 credit hours (before achieving a junior standing). Please check the eligibility criteria for declaring the Biology major below.

Eligibility Criteria for Biology Major Declaration at the Gate

The eligibility criteria for students who wish to apply to declare their major from the gate, with the declaration effective in the fall 2026 semester or the spring 2027 semester, can be accessed through the link below. Admission to the major is based on the program’s student capacity.

Eligibility Criteria for Biology Major Declaration from Within

The eligibility criteria for undeclared students (or students switching majors) who wish to apply to declare their major, with the declaration effective in the fall 2026 semester or the spring 2027 semester, can be accessed through the link below. Admission to the major is based on the program’s student capacity.
