Gender Studies Minor

The minor in gender studies provides students with basic knowledge of gender concepts and theory from a cross-cultural perspective.

Fifteen credits are required for a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies.

Required

ANTH 380/3105 - Fieldwork Methods (3 cr.)  

GWST 000/4000 Contemporary Debates in Gender and Women’s Studies (3 cr.) “Put into effect AY 2022-2023”

Select two 3000 level courses

ANTH 360/3080 - Gender, Sexuality and Social Change (3 cr.)  

ANTH 332/3060 - Social Constructions of Difference: Race, Class and Gender (3 cr.) / SOC 332/3060 - Social Constructions of Difference: Race, Class and Gender (3 cr.)  

ARIC 305/3104 - Arabic Literature and Gender (3 cr.)  

ECLT 345/3045 - Literature and Gender (3 cr.)  

FILM 000/3150 - Women and Film (3 cr.)  

Select one 4000 level course

SOC 435/4040 - Gender and Power in Development (3 cr.)  

ANTH 425/4030 - Women, Islam and the State (3 cr.)  

Additionally: There are numerous 3000 and especially 4000 level special topics gender courses offered in the departments on a yearly basis. The IGWS Advisory Committee will assemble and approve these on a semester by semester basis and make these additional elective options available on a Gender and Women’s Studies Minor website.
