CHEM 000/5221 - Nutrition & Diseases (3 cr.)
Description The course provides the relationship between diet, nutrition and disease. The course will cover the methodology used to determine dietary, nutritional and body composition techniques and how evidence is gathered to determine the links between diet, nutrition and health. The relationship between diet and nutrition and the prevention and management of specific diseases and conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders and osteoporosis will be covered in depth. Main topics are: Malnutrition (obesity and undernutrition); metabolic syndrome; diabetes; cardiovascular diseases; food allergies, food intolerance, osteoporosis and cancer.
