Description This course surveys different conceptualizations of poverty and inequality. It covers the different approaches to studying the issue on both global and national levels. Some of the major issues included are: the socio-economic and political characterization of the poor; poverty alleviation; the impact of globalization on poverty and inequality, poverty and gender, and urban and rural poverty; and different approaches to poverty reduction.
