LING 200 - Languages of the World Description This course aims to acquaint students with basic knowledge of the world’s natural languages. We will look at the diversity and fundamental similarities among the languages of the world and, in doing so, explore the following topics: language families and historic relationships, linguistic typology and language universals, language policy and politics, writing systems, and language obsolescence. (3 cr.)
