Description/Outline This course is designed to provide participants with a thorough fundamental knowledge in terms of the sustainability of the Facility Management profession. They will be able to define sustainability principles in Facility Management, identify the benefits of sustainability, and recognize commonly used terminology. Also, the course will provide participants with the information, tips, and tricks required to carry out their roles effectively.

  • Define the Sustainability & Triple bottom line

o Sustainable Facility Management importance & relation to Climate Change

  • Explain SDG & ESG

o ESG vs. CSR vs. sustainability:

  • Factors contributing to sustainable facilities management

o Initiatives of sustainability and feasibility check
o Generate sustainability policy

  • Identify Financial Concepts for Sustainable Facilities 
  • Apply a sustainability plan for facility development 
  • Recognize Categories of sustainable facilities Operations:

o Energy & Energy Use Intensity (EUI) Index
o Water
o Materials
o Indoor Environmental Quality
o Waste Management

  • Identify Measuring and Reporting tools on Sustainability

o Issue sustainability report and guidelines
o Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting protocol
o Create a Carbon Footprint report - Measure GHG of facilities

  • Apply Building Rating Systems & Sustainability Standards
  • Site Visit to AUC Sustainable Initiatives
  • Project and Presentation
