Eligibility Criteria for Petroleum Engineering Major Declaration from Within


To be considered for admission to the Petroleum Engineering Major, candidates must have satisfied the following criteria:

  1. Candidates must have completed all the criteria courses (as listed below).
  2. Candidates with transfer credits or xxempted from certain courses will only be considered after completion of at least 14 AUC credit hours of criteria or additional courses (as listed below).

Criteria Courses (minimum 14-15* Credit Hours):

*Drop the lowest grade of one of the criteria courses, so the counted criteria courses credits will be 11-14 credit hours.

**The highest grade of Calculus I or Calculus II will be considered.

***This course doesn’t prevent students from declaring Petroleum Engineering with the condition that the declared students have to take it right after declaration.

Additional Courses       

Any of the PHYS, MACT, or Engineering Core Requirements from within the Petroleum Engineering Curriculum.

Admission Index

To be considered, candidates must achieve a minimum concentration index (of criteria courses) of 3.0 and an (Overall GPA + Concentration index) of at least 5.75.

The concentration index is the GPA for all courses included in the Criteria and Additional courses with an Additional Increment of 0.01 per credit of successfully completed Additional courses as indicated in the following formula:

Concentration Index = GPA of (Criteria+additional courses) + Additional Increment

Selection of Students

To fill in available places, students satisfying the above criteria will be prioritized according to the admission index.
